Four Features To Consider Adding To Your Pool

Posted on

If you have decided to install a swimming pool this summer, or you are simply remodeling one that you already have, you will want it to be functional and look good. Both the functionality as well as the visual impact will often depend on the features that you choose to install. Choosing the right features will allow you and your family to enjoy your pool to its fullest. Here are a few features that may be worth your consideration.

Infinity Edge

One of the most popular features that is seen in custom built high end pools is an infinity, negative, vanishing, or zero edge. These pools are designed to produce a visual effect that the water never ends or has no boundaries. These are a perfect addition for a pool that is near a large body of water, or perched on a hillside or cliff.

Unfortunately, due to the structural complexities of building an infinity edge pool, these are normally only built by a select group of builders, and this type of feature can be quite expensive. But when done right, an infinity edge pool will give you an oasis that will make you the envy of your community.

Zero Entry

Zero entry, or beach entry pools allow you easy access into your pool. Instead of having to jump in, or walk down several steps, you will be able to walk directly into your pool the same way you would walk into the ocean. With a zero entry pool, one or more sides of your pool gradually slopes down from ground level into the edge of your water. If you really want to make it look like the beach, you may want to consider adding sand.

Zero entry pools are perfect if you have young children, elderly family, or family or friends with disabilities. This type of feature will allow them to be able to access the pool without assistance and only enter to the depth that they are comfortable with. Because this featured edge of the pool is less shallow, you will find the water in this area to be warmer, which often makes it a perfect place to simply hang out and relax.

Baja Shelf

Baja shelf, sun shelf, lounging edge, or tanning edge: these are all names for pools with a section designed for young children to play, or for adults to simply relax in shallow water. They can give you the same benefits of a beach entry without taking up as much space. Because they can be customized to fit pools of various shapes and sizes, these can be a great addition to almost any pool.

For safety, and to keep people from stepping off of these shelves into deeper water, it is recommended that these spaces be highlighted or emphasized through the use of color, tiling, or in other ways. These spaces can also be great locations to add splash pads, bubblers, fountains, or other interactive water features. For additional comfort, consider adding umbrella sleeves, which will give you the ability to add shade anytime you want it.

Integrated Spa

Another feature that you may want to consider adding to your pool is an integrated spa. This allows you to have all of the benefits of seating and air jets directly in your pool instead of being separate and apart from your pool. By adding your spa directly into your pool plans, it gives you more places to socialize, as well as making it easier to keep an eye on your children or others who may be in the pool.

Speak to a swimming pool contractor, such as those at Celebrity Pools, about other features you may be interested in. They may be able to show you local projects they have constructed that have similar designs. Not only will this allow you to visualize your plans before they are complete, but you may even be able to speak with the other pool owners to see how much they enjoy the feature.
