How To Make Repairs To Your Pool

Posted on

Swimming pools aren't cheap, so if yours has any leaks, holes in the liner, or is having general issues in any way, it can feel detrimental. The good news is that most things can be repaired on a pool with either patches or new parts. Your local pool supply store may carry much of your pool parts in their store or they can be ordered. See below for some very common problems that can occur with a pool and how to repair them.

Liner Leaks

If there is a leak in your pool liner, you'll need to find where the leak is coming from. If you notice a hole or tear in your liner, you need to apply a patch to prevent any further leaking and to prevent that tear/hole from getting larger. Look for a patch kit at your local pool supply store. Remove water from your pool if you can so you can apply the patch properly. Dry the liner with a towel, and then cut the patch to at least 1 inch larger than the hole/tear. Apply the patch using the adhesive that came with the patch kit, then press it into the liner to be sure it adheres properly. Fill the water back up in your pool and keep an eye on the patch. Be sure nobody tries to pull off the patch.

Hose Leaks

If you have any leaks coming from the hoses going to the pump or coming from the filter, you'll need to tighten the hose clamps that are in place. If there are holes in the hoses, replace the hoses altogether. Check the connections around your pump, filter, and elsewhere to be sure there aren't any leaks.

Green Water

If the water in your pool is beginning to change to a green color, it's time to take action before it's even harder to clear up your pool. Take a sample of your pool water to your local pool supply store to have the water tested. Purchase the right chemicals depending on what your water is lacking and then add the chemicals as instructed. Don't try to just add chlorine, as you could wind up wasting a lot of money. Sometimes if your pool has algae in it, it could eat the chlorine, no matter how much you add to your pool. Always test your pool water with a testing kit and add only what is necessary. Be sure to vacuum your pool often and backwash it to get rid of the dirty water.

Complications and issues will happen during a pool's lifespan. Take care of your pool to help lengthen the life of your pool and to enjoy it season after season. For more information and help with repairs, contact a professional pool repair company, such as Kokopelli  Pool and Spa.
